LEGAL REDRESS COMMITTEE

The NAACP Stockton Branch does not provide legal representation, nor do we provide direct programs and services. However, we often provide referrals to other organizations and individuals that may provide the assistance needed.

The Legal Redress Committee shall: (1) investigate all cases reported to it; (2) supervise all litigation in which the branch is interested and; (3) keep the national office and the branch informed on the progress of every case. It shall not give legal advice.

The Legal Redress Committee works to address criminal justice and juvenile justice issues. The NAACP Stockton Branch advocates to increase the awareness of gun violence, police brutality, racial profiling, and other injustices disproportionately affecting our communities. We build community partnerships to address the surge of gun violence within our communities.

We take an aggressive approach to abolish and prosecute incidents of police brutality. We take a proactive approach to combating racial bias in law enforcement. We seek to eliminate disparate treatment of blacks in all aspects of law enforcement and criminal justice systems.
